Today is the holy festival of Buddha Jyanti, it is also called Vaishakh Purnima in some areas of Nepal. The full moon of Vaishak month is also called Buddha Purnima. From this day, three features of Lord Buddha are connected, it was the birth of Gautam Buddha and his nirvana day and on this day he got knowledge (buddhita).

Buddha Jayanti is the largest festival of Buddhists which is celebrated with enthusiasm by Buddhist followers all over the world. In Hinduism, Lord Buddha is considered to be the ninth incarnation of Vishnu, which is also considered as a very sacred festival for Hindus.

Birth of Gautama Buddha

Lord Gautam Buddha was born at the place called Lumbini near Kapilavastu of Nepal in 563 BC. happened. Buddha’s father’s name was Shraddhan and mother’s name was Maydevi. Buddha was known as Siddhartha in his speech. When Buddha had died, only after the death of his mother was done by Buddha, after which his nourishment was done by slaves and servants. There is also a belief associated with Buddha that by any astrologer had said at the time of his birth that if this child continues to live in the house then he would become a mighty emperor and if he renounced the house, then he would prove to be a missionary and a philanthropist.

After this prophecy, King Shuddhan was very skeptical, after that he had made a arrangement with Buddha that he should be kept in a very pleasurable atmosphere, forgetting the worldly grief and suffering of mourning, in connection with the real state of the world. They are never allowed to come.

Rajkumar Siddhartha was married to Princess Yashodhara at the age of 16, from whom he had a son, Rahul.

The reason for Rajkumar’s father to arrange such a arrangement one day when he went on a journey, he saw an old man whose waist was leaning and he was constantly fluttering with the help of the sticks. If someone walks a little further then seeing a patient suffering from pain, his mind becomes immersed. After this he saw the meaning of the deceased, behind which his family was mourning. Seeing all these scenes, their mind was filled with irritation and delusion, only then they saw a monk which was free from all the obstacles in the world. All these scenes shook Rajkumar Siddhartha. After this he decided to become a Sannyasi. Then at the age of 19, Siddharth left home for a night and went away from this transitory world and went out in search of truth.

How Buddha Receives Knowledge

After Buddha renounced his house, he stayed for seven days in village called Simpi. After this he found the Guru in the capital of Magadha where Kush remained with the ascetic ‘Alar Kalam’ for days. After this he remained with an Acharya but he was not satisfied there. After this he started his own penance. Due to his strict penance, the work had become shaky but he had not yet attained the knowledge. After this he went roaming on one day, on the banks of river Naranjana (Phalgu) near Uruwala, and there, sitting under a papal tree, became a place of pilgrimage. Yes, Buddha remained in Samadhi for six years and after this he received knowledge on Vaisakh Purnima, after which he was called Mahatma Gautam Buddha. On the place where Buddha received knowledge, ‘Bodh Gaya’ and Peepal tree are called Bodhi tree. In these six years, it is called ‘Shodohi Kal’ in Buddhist literature.

Lord Buddha’s Nirvana

Gautam Buddha gave his first sermon in Sarnath and established Buddhism. He was 483 BC At Vaishak Poornima, after leaving his body in Kushinagar, he became absorbed in the universe. This incident is called ‘Mahaparinirvana’.

History of Buddha Jyanti

After the death of Mahatma Gautam Buddha, the celebration of Buddha Purnima was celebrated for hundreds of years. Even then, this festival was not given official status of Buddhist status until the middle of the 20th century. In the year 1950, a world Buddhist gathering was organized in Sri Lanka to discuss Buddhism. In all this he decided to make Buddha Purnima an official holiday which will be celebrated in honor of Lord Buddha’s birth, life and death.
