Pasang Lehuma Sherpa – National Heroes of Nepal

Pasang Lhamu Sherpa was born in the small Surke village of Solukhumbu district on 2018 B.S. She was daughter of Sherpa family and her father has involvement in mountaineering activities, Therfore she knew the path to mount Mountains at the age of five years.

Pasang Lhamu was marriage with a hiking business man with Lakpa Sherpa and that’s why it’s easy to get the desire to climb the Everest. She had two daughters and a son. She was capable curiosity and also operated family to ability efficiently.

‘I love the country more than my family and the life, and I have desire dream to name Nepal from the side of Nepal’s lady,’ said Pasang Lhumu Sherpa. She had a great desire to wake for all Nepalese women who suffering from weakness. She had a great betrayal of the glory and reputation of the Nepali nation. In order to satisfy these aspirations, Pasang had to face with many difficult steps to reach top of the Sagarmatha peak. At the age of 14, she has started to travel on the mountain a path guide and made successful climber of Mont Blanc and Cho Oyu mountains. Pasang had been tried for 3 times to reach top of Everest, being Leader of 146 Sagarmatha Campaign Team, but failed to reach top.

In 1993, French Mountaineering Team decided to climb Sagarmatha starting from Pisang peak Base with five Sherpas. One of them was five-time Everest sumitter Sherpa Sonam Tshering and rest sherpas are Pasang Lhamu Sherpa, Lhakpa Norbu Sherpa, Pemba Dorje Sherpa and Dawa Tashi Sherpa respectively. While starting from base camp, weather was bright and clean; and remained until Pasang flaaged Nepal flag on the top of the 8,848 m. peak. Then Pasang Lhamu Sherpa became first Nepali woman a d seventeen women of world to reached on top of Sagarmatha.

While returning from Everest after successful, however weather went unfolded and Then Team had to face the snow and ice storm at Batma (8,755 meters high) after the fourth round of the successful ascendant fell down. Sonam T-shering got serious illness at south summit and Pasang helped in effort but sadly both Sonam Tshering and pasang Lhamu didn’t survive on the way down to summit when the strong snow storm moved onto Everest trapping the climbers on south summit. Then her died body was brought from the helicopter to Kathmandu.

After the death, Pasang received a title as ‘Super honorable Nepal Star’ (‘सुप्रदिप्त मान्यवर नेपाल तारा’) with respect to National Honor. Later, Post Ticket was published publicly from the government named as ‘Passang Lahmu Chuli’ with highlighted of Pasang Lhamu Sherpa’s photo.

In 2052 B.S. , the Pasang Lhamu Academic Prize (पासाङ ल्हामु प्रज्ञा–पुरस्कार) was established with cash Rs.50,000 by National Academy (नेपाल राजकीय प्रज्ञा प्रतिष्ठान). Similarly, government also welcomed the occasion of Pasang Lhamu Sherpa as Memorial Day and in 2059 B.S. Nepal Government declared Pasang Lhamu Sherpa as National Hero of Nepal.
